Welcome aboard for the maiden launch of greeninvestor.com. While we’re certainly not early to the space, we think we’re just in time. In fact, greeninvestor.com was conceived more than ten years ago, while working on a new generation of web applications to put the power of self-directed 401(k) retirement planning directly in the hands of individual employee-investors–a revolutionary concept at the time.

In the wake of the recent financial crisis and ongoing economic conditions, we think investing based on sustainable values is more timely than ever. With so much market noise on financial news channels, we aim to cut through the hype and elucidate those opportunities and directions which offer the best monetary as well as social and ecological returns.

Fundamentally, we approach investing as a way of visualizing and navigating to a desired future. Do we want a planet dominated by inbred corporate interests, deceptive practices and toxic products incentivized only by short-term profit, and an increasingly centralized control of power?  Or would we prefer a more community-based, networked, organic and distributed generation approach that respects cultural diversity and local initiatives? We look forward to shining light on the most viable possibilities, and in doing so to “turn the ship” from our present unsustainable, consumptive and turbulent course towards more a more placid and nurturing future.
